Dr. Karen Hammack
Clinical Psychologist
About
Karen Hammack, Ph.D.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 16 years worth of experience in treating individual, couples, and families. I am certified in two evidence-based trauma therapies for individuals - Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and also generally use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach, while keeping in mind that we are all whole people who deserve to be seen and heard as such. That's why it is vitally important to me to create safe spaces for anyone who chooses to work with me in therapy. My couples training began with Dr. Andrew Christensen, one of the creators of Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT), and after rigorous consultation, I became certified in IBCT. I also work as a national trainer for IBCT, providing education and consultation to therapists across the country.
After obtaining my B.A. from Vanderbilt University and my Master's Degree at Columbia University, I moved to Oxford, MS for my Ph.D (at the University of Mississippi). My services are in person in the Charleston, SC area, as well as web-based. I have been utilizing telehealth technologies for the better part of the past 12 years. I believe this increases access to evidence-based treatment, which should be widely available. I am licensed via PSYPACT, allowing me to see clients via telehealth to any of the 43 states in the consortium, as well as my home states of Georgia and South Carolina. This does include Washington, DC, Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
